Just In...Stabenow & Levin want to add $2 billion more of your Tax dollars to prop up "Cash for Clunkers" program

July 31 (Reuters) - Legislation that would add $2 billion to a cash-for-clunkers program aimed at spurring U.S. automobile sales could move quickly through the U.S. Congress, Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow said on Friday.

Speaking to reporters, Stabenow and fellow Democrat Carl Levin said a vote could come as early as Friday in the House of Representatives to extend the popular program that was recently enacted. The House is scheduled to recess later in the day for its annual August vacation.

The government's $1 billion cash-for-clunkers program ran out of money after an unexpected avalanche of business exhausted its funds, the Obama administration said late Thursday. The program was part of a congressional effort to help domestic automakers, especially General Motors Corp GM.UL and Chrysler [CCMLPC.UL], which briefly went bankrupt earlier this year.

Stabenow added that she was in talks with Senate Democratic leaders to move the extension quickly through the Senate, but did not yet know when that might happen….

Tell Debbie and Carl what YOU think about their willingless to spend 2 billion more of your tax dollars ( actually you get some of your own tax dollars back IF you use the "cash for clunkers" program) on yet another blotched government program!

Cash for clunkers program may be running on empty - Washington Times

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The government's popular "cash for clunkers" program may be running out of money after only a matter of days as car shoppers flock to dealerships to take advantage of the rebates.

The White House said Thursday it was assessing its options amid concerns the $1 billion budget for rebates for new car sales may have been depleted. The program officially began last week and has been heavily publicized by automakers and dealers...

The phasing out the use of traditional, incandescent light bulbs in favor of CFLs beginning in 2012 and culminating in a ban on incandescent bulbs in 2014, was included in Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 the purpose is “to move the United States toward greater energy independence and security, to increase the production of clean renewable fuels, to protect consumers, to increase the efficiency of products, buildings, and vehicles, to promote research on and deploy greenhouse gas capture and storage options…"

Congresswoman Michele Bachman of Minnesota
was ahead of the curve when she introduced in 3/13/2008 (110th Congress) the aptly named “Light Bulb Freedom of Choice Act H.R. 5616 [110th]which had 24 co-sponsers.

"Most Americans, if you ask them, have no idea that the government has already made a choice for them," Bachmann said in a televised MSNBC interview. "The government has substituted its choice for the American consumer's choice. Most Americans have no idea they won't be able to choose their own light bulbs."

Of course it was assigned to committee where lots of introduced bills go to die:Latest Major Action: 3/14/2008 Referred to House subcommittee. Status: Referred to the Subcommittee on Energy and Air Quality.

STRIKE DAY! Taking It Up a Notch ( A Poll)

STRIKE DAY! Taking It Up a Notch

Robert of San Jose, CA, a feisty Constitution lover started the ball-rolling on this idea and I’m so glad to have the privilege of working with him.

STRIKE DAY
The Federal Government has gone over the edge.
While we have a deficit of $65 trillion+, the 111th Congress and our President just keep spending, spending, spending. Our elected representatives are ramming pieces of legislation into law faster than a speeding bullet and they don’t even know what’s in them.

Our money supply is controlled by a shady, extra-constitutional entity that has no oversight and carte blanche to print monopoly money at will, devaluing our currency and implementing a stealth tax by way of inflation.

Money is just a uniform way of valuing a product, good, service, or time. When you work, you are being compensated for your time. When government taxes you, they are taking some of your time, taking some of your life away.

Since government spending has reached levels so far beyond what can possibly be repayed without levels of taxation well into the future that are astronomical, government will be taking more and more of our time, more of our lives away. Based upon what has already been spent, government will be taking a lot of our childrens’ and grandchildrens’ time, and lives too.
Many of us know – THIS MUST STOP!

We make phone calls, we send faxes, and emails to the point of locking up websites and switchboards, where staffers shut off fax machines, but they’re still not getting the message.
We’ve taken to the streets in the millions at Tea Parties and they still do not get the message.

Since our previous efforts to get through to government don’t seem adequate by themselves to get the point across, and we cannot wait until 2010 to vote people out of Congress, we need to take further action:

It’s time to crank it up a notch!

We need to hit government right where it currently lives; in it's pocketbook. Government’s pocketbook is tax dollars.

Government entities tax every aspect of our daily lives from the income earned through our jobs, homes we live in, phones, we communication services we use such as, our phones and Internet, gas we put in our cars, our leisure activities from the adult beverages we may drink to the hotels we stay in on vacation. Even in death, the government wants a cut through estate / inheritance taxes. All of these activities are some form of commerce from which layers of government benefit.

In order to get the message across that it is time for government to be reduced in size and power to its proper role, we must choke off access to our money by shutting down as many avenues of tax collection as possible.

We propose a STRIKE, meaning that anyone who agrees that government is over the edge, pledges to refrain from all exchange of commerce.

What would a strike entail?

Do not go to work.
Shut down your business.
Do not shop for goods or services such as gas, groceries, movie rentals, clothing, fast food, pizza delivery, car maintenance, hair cuts, etc., etc.
Do engage in any banking transactions of any kind such as ATMs, drive thru, loan closings, etc.
Do not make major purchases such as a car, appliances, property, or a TV.
Do not engage in financial markets such as stock transactions, 401k account changes, etc.
There is NO question that this requires sacrifice from everyone who participates.
We do not suggest that if you are in an employment situation that is tenuous due to a downturn in your industry, that you risk the loss of your job. Go to work if that’s the case. You can do your part by otherwise not engaging in any commerce whatsoever.

A strike could be effective if it were one time thing BEFORE Congress leaves for the August break. We propose Friday, July 31.

A strike could be even more effective if we do it once a month (the last Friday) thereafter UNTIL WE GET THE DESIRED RESULTS.

What say you?

HR 2454 / 2998 List and Links of Summaries and Analysis Cap-N-Trade

Right after the 300 page amendment that was slipped in the bill in the early morning hours of Friday the same day the Cap-n-Trade was voted on and passed, I spend some time with a group of tea party organizers and grassroots activists from across the country.

We decided to divide up 300 page amendment into sections for each person to read. Each person would give give an analysis of the section they read and that analysis would be complied by my friend and Lincoln,NE tea party organizer, Shelli Dawdy. Shelli along with being a tea party organizer is a conservative blogger, wife and home schools her children, so you could rightly say, she is one busy gal!
So Shelli is in the process of compiling the received analysis into one post and I will post it here as soon as I receive it from her

Tim Walberg Announces for U.S. House

Tim Walberg Announces for U.S. House

“I trust the American people, while Mark Schauer trusts big government”

Tipton, MI- Tim Walberg today announced he is running for the U.S. House of Representatives.

“The people of south central Michigan are hard working, entrepreneurial and care deeply for their community, but are struggling mightily due to excessive government spending, recent tax increases, and a big government that is squashing hope and economic opportunities,” said Walberg

"I cannot sit idly while Congressman Schauer votes to raise taxes, spend trillions we don’t have and bring the failed Granholm strategies he advanced in Michigan to Washington D.C. In contrast, I will fight for Michigan families by working to balance the budget, move America toward energy independence, and provide across-the-board tax relief to reward hard work and spur job creation. I trust the American people, while Mark Schauer trusts big government,” Walberg concluded.

Background:

Congressman Tim Walberg represented the people of the 7th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2007 to 2009. He fought to make government live within its means, prevent tax increases, move America toward energy independence, make health care more affordable, support our troops, secure our border, and defend our traditional values.

Mark Schauer voted for Speaker Pelosi’s massive “cap and trade” national energy tax. [Roll Call Vote 477 on 6-26-09]

·Congressman John Dingell, a key Michigan Democrat and longtime Chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, said that "nobody in this country realizes that cap and trade is a tax, and it’s a great big one." [Congressman Dingell speaking in House committee on 4-27-09]

·The Congressional Budget Office predicts gasoline costs would increase by 77 cents per gallon and utility bills could increase by 40-50%. [Rep. Upton Press Release 6-26-09]

·President Obama said cap and trade would cause “electric rates” to “skyrocket.” [San Francisco Chronicle interview of Obama 1-17-08]

Mark Schauer voted for massive federal government spending increases.

·Voted for the $800 billion spending “stimulus” package. [Roll Call Vote 46 on 1-28-09]

·Voted for the $410 billion omnibus appropriations bill that increased spending by 8.4%, included over 8,000 earmarks, and raised spending for the operation of Congress by 11%. [Roll Call Vote 86 on 2-25-09]

·Voted for Speaker Pelosi’s almost $4 trillion Budget that increases the national debt by $5.3 trillion over the next five years. [Roll Call Vote 192 on 4-2-09]

Mark Schauer voted for Governor Granholm’s failed economic strategies.

·With Michigan in a recession, Mark Schauer voted for Governor Granholm’s income tax increase and sales tax on services. [Senate Roll Call votes 397 and 398 on 10-1-07] Schauer even introduced a bill to raise the income tax by 18%. [Mark Schauer introduced Senate Bill 605 on 6-21-07]

God Bless America, God Bless Our Troops

I just received this video via my e-mail. Although it is an amazing tribute to one, it symbolizes our deep heartfelt gratitude to all who have given the ultimate sacrifice in defense of their country, in defense of freedom.

My heart broke watching, but with pride too.
Watch it to the end and yours will too.
God Bless America, God Bless Our Troops

Killed in action the week before, the body of Staff Sergeant First Class John C. Beale was returned to Falcon Field in Peachtree City, Georgia, just south of Atlanta, on June 11, 2009. The Henry County Police Department escorted the procession to the funeral home in McDonough, Georgia. A simple notice in local papers indicated the road route to be taken and the approximate time. People lined the route for miles to pay tribute to one of our fallen.

Lansing, MI Independence Day Tea Party: After Action Report

We had 1,500 to 1,800, I spoke with Capitol Events staff afterwards.

THAT is a great turnout for a holiday weekend. We also participated in the City of Lansing parade with 2 mounted riders included and an array of flags!

People are concerned AND committed to getting involved.

The most asked question? When is the next one?

Activists are being created out of the tea parties and We'll be back but perhaps in another form....but expect to see MORE activism because... We are at war. We are at war with those who have methodically worked to dismantle our Constitution, torn apart our representative Republic, and who wish to put another form of government in its place. WE ARE COMMITTED TO FIGHT FOR OUR REPRESENTATIVE REPUBLIC

Big THANK YOU to our volunteers, speakers and to all who sacrificed some leisure time to attend.

Cap & Trade HR 2454 (2998) TARGET: 300 Pages & The Senate

Last week, a number of Tea Party organizers and grassroots leaders from various states participated in a conference call and worked together to compile information quickly to deal with the rather surprising news that the Cap & Trade bill, previously thought to be indefinitely stalled, was going to the House floor for a vote.

We were able to get information out through a lot of information quickly. It is more than unfortunate that the bill did pass, but all the efforts across the country appeared to have some impact; clearly some members of Congress felt the heat; the vote was closer than expected.....The rest of article about the call we convened and the bill is on my friend, Shelli Dawdy's blog Facts are Stubborn Things 1776
