Sessions kills immigration plan

WASHINGTON -- After countless hours of arguing on the Senate floor, often armed with charts and reports to help make his case, Sen. Jeff Sessions won his fight Thursday to kill a plan to overhaul the nation's immigration law.
Conservative Republicans led by Sessions persuaded their colleagues to reject a bill that would have allowed millions of undocumented workers to apply for legal status and would have strengthened security along the Rio Grande.
"It simply didn't do the job," said the Mobile Republican.
The bill's sponsors needed 60 votes to move the bill to a final vote, but Thursday's vote was 46-53...
