Cash for clunkers program may be running on empty - Washington Times
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The government's popular "cash for clunkers" program may be running out of money after only a matter of days as car shoppers flock to dealerships to take advantage of the rebates.
The White House said Thursday it was assessing its options amid concerns the $1 billion budget for rebates for new car sales may have been depleted. The program officially began last week and has been heavily publicized by automakers and dealers... to read the rest of the article click here:

Hi,
I am in total support of the Grass Roots/Tea Party movement. However, I am trying to understand how the "Cash for Clunkers" is a bad program for the car industry and for the Tax payers. My point being, I think stimulating the auto industry is a good thing for Michigan and finally the Tax payer is getting a break, eventhough it is our money. For me, I have many other complaints about other gov. bailouts and certainly don't want government run Health Care. But isn't it better spent money helping out the auto industry rather than doing studies about pigs, building turtle crossings, supporting perverted and pornographic theaters in San Franciso, ect. Believe me I don't agree with government take overs and have rallied in Lansing in support of the Tea Party. I am just trying to get facts and understand why we should be against the "Cash for Clunkers" bill. I was unable to read your link to the rest of the story as I keep getting a message stating the article cannot be found. Please explain to me your position on this matter. Thank you.
Hello,
Hello,
I appreciate your question.
Let me pose some, where in the Constitution is the Federal government given the right to
be a used car dealer? Or to take over a private company, GM and the president of the United States fire her CEO? Or to demand another private company, Chrysler merge with a foreign company, Fiat? (btw I am a GM retiree)
I understand that some may be getting their own tax dollars back however that’s if
you opt to use the program otherwise someone else’s taxpayer’s money is going to subsidize another's car purchase. In addition the government decides which car models
you may purchase under this program with your tax dollars
So where does it end? The government debt is over 12 Trillion with the mad spending
Why not stop the insane spending and therefore the need for high taxes so we don’t need Big government programs that give us our own money back, we keep it!
However the real reason behind this program is the president’s, and global warming adherents “vision” for “environmentally” friendly cars to force us off our “addiction” to oil. It’s a back door method to reduce our freedom of choice based on a faulty premise, man-made global warming where despite the propaganda, there is no scientific consensus of prove. Government policy, should be based on the Constitution and not on “agendas”
However, the government and some big companies stand to make a lot of money on the sale of carbon credits!
There is a great book that explains what happens when the government tries to control
the private sector,(and the ensuing move towards socialism) its called “The Forgotton Man” by Amity Shlaes
Roosevelt (Obama’s hero) tried it with his “New Deal” and extended the Great Depression, not to mention bringing America closer to socialism by giving the President unconstitutional powers. It can be ordered on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Forgotten-Man-History-Great-Depression/dp/0066211700 or picked up at any library.
Thank you for stopping by
