Happy New Year!

The best laid plans of mice and men...I fully intended to blog about my trip to Texas however for "whatever" reason known to only God and computer tech people my wireless was not able to connect to my friend's wireless.

Oh I know I could have used theirs but the set up just wasn't right and well I was on vacation & fun got in the way.

And now its New Years Eve.

And I really do love the celebration of a new year. New beginnings, new hope for the coming year. Too many including myself, 2008 was a difficult year. But the new year looms ahead with possibilities and hope. And I am believing that 2009 is going to be my year!

2009 is the year I will sell my house
2009 is the year I get on the "open road" full time RVing, exploring the most beautiful country in the world.
2009 is the year that these goals, dreams will come true!

2009 is going to be your year too!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

"Auld Lang Syne" is a Scottish poem written by Robert Burns in 1788 and set to the tune of a traditional folk song (Roud # 6294). It is well known in many English-speaking countries and is often sung to celebrate the start of the new year at the stroke of midnight on New Year's Day.
The song's (Scots) title may be translated into English literally as "old long since", or more idiomatically, "long long ago"[1] or "days gone by".

Auld Lang Syne
Robert Burns

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
and days of auld lang syne?
For auld lang syne, my dear, For auld lang syne,
We'll take a cup o' kindness yet For auld lang syne

We twa hae run aboot the braes
And pou'd the gowans fine; we've wander'd mony
a weary footSin' auld lang syne
We two hae paidled i' the burn,Frae mornin' sun till dine;
But seas between us braid hae roar'd Sin' auld lang syne
And here's a hand, my trusty friend,
And gie's a hand o' thine;
We'll take a cup o' kindness yet For auld lang syne
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
and days of auld lang syne?
For auld lang syne, my dear, For auld lang syne,
We'll take a cup o' kindness yet For auld lang syne

GM Idles Local Michigan Plants

Both Lansing Grand River Assembly and Lansing Delta Assembly plants will stop their production lines for the entire month of January.

General Motors Corp. says it is part of a plan to cut another 250,000 vehicles from its first-quarter production schedule by temporarily closing 21 factories across North America.Friday's announcement expands previously announced closings at the local plants.GM and nearly all automakers who sell in the U.S. are mired in the worst sales slump in 26 years.

Employees at more than a dozen local part suppliers -- companies that directly supply the Lansing Grand River and Delta Township plants will be effected also.

Companies like Alliance Interiors, Bridgewater Interiors, Leer, and trucking company Comprehensive Logistics will see cutbacks.WILX-TV

Lansing Grand River Assembly produces Cadillac CTS, Cadillac SRX, STS, CTS-V and STS-V.

LGR has approximately 1,427 Hourly and 210 Salary employees.
LGR opened in 2001 and is considered "the gold standard for GM manufacturing — highly flexible, lean employment levels, profitable and able to crank out models with few defects. It is GM’s best hope of competing head-to-head with efficient U.S. manufacturing plants run by Toyota, Nissan, Honda and other foreign rivals." The Detroit News

Lansing Delta Assembly produces GMC Acadia, Saturn Outlook and the Buick Enclave.

LDA has approximately 3,396 Hourly and 261 Salary employees.
LDA opened in 2006 and "The state-of-the-art facility...collects rainwater on its roof and uses it to flush toilets--one of the environmentally friendly practices that has made it the only auto plant in the world to earn gold-level certification with the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building rating system."InformationWeek

Lansing Grand River Assembly and Lansing Delta Assembly plants are the only new production plants GM has built in North America since the Saturn Plant in Spring Hill,Tennessee in 1991.

On a personal note I worked as an hourly Administrative Assistant for Body, Paint and General Assembly at Lansing Grand River shortly before I retired this year. And I am of course saddened by the news for the GM family and my community.

Hundreds gather as UAW addresses domestic auto crisis

Louis Aguilar
Detroit News

DETROIT -- Hundreds of United Auto Workers locals have converged at the Marriott Hotel in the Renaissance Center this morning, and many are prepared to be asked by top UAW leaders to reopen national labor agreements that will allow for a vast overhaul of the way autoworkers are paid, the health and retiree benefits they receive, and determine how many will hold on to their jobs.

The local leaders said it was unclear if they were going to vote today on reopening, which is the first step toward a general vote for its 139,000 active workers. But on Tuesday, each of the Detroit automakers made it clear they intend to reopen the 2007 labor agreements.....

They could save some $$ by eliminating benefits to partners of same-sex couple. Anyone discussing that??

The Big Three automakers -- DaimlerChrysler,, General Motors and Ford Motor -- announced in June that they would offer health benefits to the same-sex partners of their 466,000 hourly and salaried employees in the United States. This was a ''landmark move'' in the effort by corporate America to provide such benefits for gay and lesbian couples, the report concluded.

I could not find much on the cost of providing these benefits however

A 2005 Hewitt Associates study revealed that a majority of employers experience a total benefits cost increase of less than 1 percent.

Several studies have shown that enrollment rates tend to be in the 1 percent to 2 percent range.

2% of 446,000 is over 93,000

93,000 @ $395 for health care for active workers and $950 for retirees. Equals for active workers $36,735.000.00 and for retirees $88,350.000.00

Total $125,085.000.00

Eliminating same sex couple partner benefits is an over 25 million savings to GM.

So if we are going to talk about eliminating benefits for actual employees...

Timeline of How Democrats Engineered the Ecomonic Meltdown

THE TOTAL PACKAGE™

Here’s the simple, frank truth about this crisis
the mainstream media will never tell you …
Here’s a quick timeline — all easily checkable online:

Gee, thanks, Mr. Carter …
1977: Jimmy Carter rams the Community Reinvestment Act through Congress. It all began 31 years ago when Billy Carter’s brother Jimmy heard that some lenders were “discriminating” against low-income borrowers …

Now, nobody I know has ever accused Mr. Carter of being the sharpest crayon in the box … But he did know one thing: He was by-god incensed — incensed, I tell you — at discrimination of any kind!

Make no mistake here: Oprah was NOT having problems getting loans; nor were most of the millions of other hard-working, responsible minority wage-earners in America.

And it’s not like credit was available to low-income white people with no savings, no down payment and lousy credit histories.

But the facts, of course, didn’t matter to Carter. All that mattered was that someone had used the “D” word, so something had to be done. Political correctness demanded it.

And so, unfazed by the fact that lenders are supposed to be discriminating when deciding who’s a good credit risk — and blissfully unburdened by even the glimmer of an understanding of the catastrophic long-term impact of his actions — Mr. Carter sprang into action.

And in no time flat, Jimmy’s Community Reinvestment Act – “CRA” for short – had sailed through the Democratic Congress.

Suddenly, any lender caught denying mortgages and other loans to low-income people faced serious penalties — including denial of applications to open new branches, to do mergers and acquisitions and other draconian measures.

1992: The Fed drops a bombshell. In what was then heralded as a "landmark study,” the Boston branch of the U.S. Federal Reserve announced that, despite the many pounds of flesh the CRA exacted from lenders who turned down low-income loan applicants, mortgage discrimination was still pandemic in the financial system.

So in a matter of days, the Boston Fed produced a manual for mortgage lenders nation-wide stating, "Discrimination may be observed when a lender’s underwriting policies contain arbitrary or outdated criteria that effectively disqualify many urban or lower-income minority applicants."

“Hey buddy – forget the beer.
You want a HOUSE?”
So what were these "arbitrary” and “outdated" criteria?

“Oh, little things,” said the Fed. “Like the size of the mortgage payment relative to income. And the prospective borrower’s savings or credit history.

“And don’t even bother checking to see if the borrower has any income at all,” said the Fed. “If you do … and he doesn’t … and you deny the loan … you’re a dirty, no good discriminator!”

“In fact, come to think of it,” the Fed mused, “if the applicant has participated in a credit-counseling program, that means he’s now a responsible borrower. Better grant him the loan or you’re toast!”

“Oh. And also? Welfare payments and unemployment benefits are valid income so you’d better include them when qualifying loan applicants.”

And so lenders did what they were told under penalty of law and the surge of bad loans accelerated.

1995: Bill Clinton cranks it up a notch. Thirty-six months later, still alarmed at the “discrimination” the Fed had uncovered and eager to reward low-income voters for sending Bubba to the White House, Andrew Cuomo — Clinton’s secretary of Housing and Urban Development — investigated Fannie Mae for racial discrimination.

He “found” it of course — and quickly proposed that fully HALF of Fannie Mae’s and Freddie Mac’s portfolio be made up of loans to low-income borrowers by the year 2001.

Next, Clinton introduced significant revisions to the Community Reinvestment Act. In testimony prior to the new bill’s passage, Gene Ludwig — Clinton’s Comptroller of the Currency — explained why reform was so desperately needed:

“Fifteen years ago,” said Ludwig, “Congress passed the Community Reinvestment Act. But the CRA has never achieved its full promise.

“The proposed reform package will channel billions of dollars a year in new credit into America’s distressed communities.”

PLAIN ENGLISH TRANSLATION: Hey, lenders! You’re still not giving enough money to people who can’t — or won’t — pay it back. This law ensures that you will!

“Don’t want to give loans to lousy credit risks?
“I’ll fix you!”

Staggeringly idiotic. Right? But wait — the Clinton administration was only getting warmed up.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the president and his Democratic majority in Congress "… mandated that Fannie and Freddie increase their purchases of mortgages for low-income and medium-income borrowers. Operating under that requirement, Fannie Mae, in particular, has been aggressive and creative in stimulating minority gains."

Then, the Clinton administration added the final kicker: Fannie, Freddie and the nation’s lenders would be allowed to turn these subprime loans into securities and sell them to financial institutions and investors world-wide!

Given the fact that Clinton enjoyed a Democratic majority in Congress at the time, it should come no surprise that the revisions sailed through Congress in no time flat.

1999: It’s working! Four years later, with low-income borrowing skyrocketing, an enthusiastic Fannie Mae could be heard publicly bragging about “the end of discriminatory lending in America.”

It even singled out its most shining example: A lender, it said, that worked with community organizers and followed "the most flexible underwriting criteria permitted."

Previously, this lender had made only $1 billion in low-income loans. By 1992, under the provisions of the Community Reinvestment Act, it had loaned $80 billion to low-income borrowers. And thanks to Clinton’s “refinements,” that firm’s loans to low-income borrowers were well on their way to surging to over $600 billion.

“We just did what Congress told us to do. ”
– Angelo Mozilo, CEO Countrywide Financial

So, one might ask, “Who was this virtuous lender that had increased its loans to low-income people a whopping 59,900% in just over one decade?”

You guessed it: It was the very lender whose demise in 2007 turned out to be the first domino to fall in the subprime lending mess: Countrywide Financial.

2001: Bush administration warns of impending doom. In Bush’s first year in office, the White House’s chief economist, N. Gregory Mankiw, warned Fannie and Freddie’s loans to unqualified borrowers and other complications at the two institutions were creating a huge risk for the entire financial system.

Representative Barney Frank (D-MA) denounced Mankiw, accusing him of having no "concern about housing."

The New York Times fell into lockstep with its Democratic masters in Congress, reporting that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were "under heavy assault by the Republicans," but that it was O.K. — because these entities still had "important political allies" in the Democrats.

Congressional Democrats dug in their heels and made absolutely sure nothing was done to address the impending crisis.

2003: The Bush administration tries to avert catastrophe a second time. Alarmed by fraud and abuses that had been discovered at Fannie and Freddie, President Bush repeatedly urged Congress to pass a bill increasing oversight on the two companies.

The Bush administration had every reason to be worried: A report by outside investigators had concluded that Freddie Mac manipulated its accounting to mislead investors. Experts were warning that Fannie Mae was not adequately hedging against rising interest rates.

“These two entities – Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac – are not facing any kind of financial crisis.” Representative Barney Frank (D-MA)
Arguing against Republican attempts to reform the two corrupt mortgage lenders in 2003.

Bush’s Treasury Secretary, John Snow, told the House Financial Services Committee, ”There is a general recognition that the supervisory system for housing-related government-sponsored enterprises neither has the tools, nor the stature, to deal effectively with the current size, complexity and importance of these enterprises.”

After the hearing, two Republican congressmen — Representative Michael G. Oxley of Ohio, chairman of the Financial Services Committee, and Senator Richard Shelby of Alabama, chairman of the Senate Banking Committee — announced their intention to draft legislation based on the administration’s proposal.

”We have seen in recent months that mismanagement and questionable accounting practices went largely unnoticed” by the independent agency that regulated Fannie and Freddie, said Oxley.

But once again, congressional Democrats and their lackeys in the media scoffed at the Bush plan to save Fannie and Freddie. Some went so far as to point at the plan as proof that Republicans hate minorities and poor people.

And Barney Frank (D-MA) now the Chairman of the powerful House Financial Services Committee — the sack of excrement in a suit you see grandstanding on TV as Congress mulls this newest bail-out — denied there was any crisis at all.

“These two entities — Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac,” declared Frank, “are not facing any kind of financial crisis.”

And so, yet another opportunity to avert the crisis that now is — according to Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson — threatening to “completely destroy the entire U.S. financial system” was lost.

The simple truth
Despite everything the Democrats in Congress are telling you now …

Despite all the mindless spin the mainstream media is trying to shove down your throat on the six-o’clock news …

Despite all the talk about how “greedy lenders and incompetent CEOs and lax government regulation” caused this crisis …

Despite the ridiculous claims that only increased government regulation and intensified congressional oversight can end the crisis (regardless of the fact that political regulation and oversight caused it) …

“The Government Did It”

“Through the stick of the CRA and the carrot of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the Fed created the mortgage market debacle.”

– Economist Yaron Brook

And despite the lies congressional Democrats and their presidential candidate are telling in an unbelievably hypocritical attempt to hang this crisis on the Bush administration (and by extension, on John McCain) …

The simple truth is, this crisis was engineered and implemented almost entirely by Democrats.

The more frightening truth is, they once again control Congress — just like they did when the laws were passed that created this crisis.

And the terrifying truth to anyone who cares about his family’s financial security is that they will probably also control the White House, come next January.

The CRA — the idiotic law that created this crisis — also made Obama who he is today. “Why is that so terrifying?” you ask …

Consider this: According to his autobiography, Obama spent his years after college and before he ran for the Illinois Senate becoming an expert in real estate law and fair housing while working as a “community organizer.”

What he was really doing was blackmailing Chicago lenders into throwing money at his low-income constituents. And the club Obama used to bludgeon banks into submission — into granting loans to people with no down payment, no job, no income and lousy credit histories — was called … you guessed it … “The Community Reinvestment Act of 1977.”

Now, to anyone who has even the glimmer of an understanding of how Washington works, it should come as no surprise that Mr. Obama was well-rewarded for his untiring efforts to force banks to throw money at unqualified borrowers — and it should also come as no surprise that those rewards flowed from the two quasi-private companies that benefited most from the explosion in subprime mortgages: Fannie and Freddie.

Recently, we learned that of the hundreds of political contributions made by Fannie Mae over the last couple of years, Obama received the second highest amount — second only to the Chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, Christopher Dodd (D-CT).

Other Democrats were also well-rewarded for this catastrophic explosion in subprime lending with lucrative jobs at Fannie and Freddie. And four of these former Fannie and Freddie big shots — former CEOs and a board member of these corrupt institutions — have been on the Obama bandwagon since Day One:

1. Franklin Raines, former Clinton administration budget director who earned $90 million in his five years as Fannie Mae CEO, from 1999 to 2004 — has been called by the Obama campaign several times for advice on (believe it or not) housing and the economy according to The Washington Post …

2. James Johnson, former aide to Democratic Vice President Walter Mondale, who earned $21 million in his last year alone serving as Fannie Mae CEO from 1991 to 1998 — was appointed to head Obama’s vice presidential selection committee …

3. Jamie Gorelick, former Clinton administration deputy attorney general, who earned $26 million as vice chair of Fannie Mae from 1998 to 2003 — has been mentioned as a prime candidate for a possible cabinet position in an Obama administration by insiders, and …

4. Rahm Emanuel, former Senior Advisor in the Clinton White House served on the Board of Directors for Freddie Mac where he is said to have opposed every reform proposed by the Bush Administration. Emanuel is credited with being the one man responsible for rallying support for Obama early on among Congressional Democrats.

Take a good, long look at those names and faces: These, along with the aforementioned Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Barney Frank and Christopher Dodd, are the eight people who created this crisis and who profited the most from it — both politically and financially.

Now, their abysmal economic ignorance, political ambition and mindless greed are killing great American companies … robbing millions of their home equity and their paychecks … driving the federal deficit through the roof … and pushing us to the brink of the greatest financial catastrophe in U.S. history.

Plenty more blame to go around
Now, I make it no secret that I’m no fan of either one of the major political parties.

Like Reagan, I believe that government isn’t the solution; it’s the problem. And by studying history, I’ve learned that whenever Washington attempts to solve any problem, it’s a slam-dunk it will only wind up creating two, three or even more far more serious ones.

Even the most casual observer would conclude that as a class, politicians in both parties are notorious for their inability to locate their own arses — even if allowed to use both hands. Until now, we have tolerated them because they — and the massive, bloated, abusive, oppressive government they have created — have been merely a dead weight on us.

Not now. Now, there’s a very real risk that their lust for power, political ambition, corruption and cowardice will cost you your job, your home, and any prospects for a prosperous life.

The ONLY way to limit the damage they do to you, to me and to every other American is to keep Washington on a short leash … prohibit them from dabbling in matters they have no business fooling with … and to strictly limit the size and scope of the government.

“A pox on both their houses,” is my studied philosophy.

So I don’t mind telling you that plenty of Republicans bear guilt for this crisis as well.

Many are guilty of not having the guts to scream bloody murder while these mindless laws were being passed …

Of not taking a stand when Bush tried not once but twice to head off this crisis at the pass …

Or worse; voting with the Democratic majority for laws that elevated populism and political correctness above financial prudence.

And sure: Many CEOs at our distressed or defunct financial institutions are guilty of the same things.

And of extending the same courtesies the government demanded for low-income borrowers to the middle class; luring millions of others into more house than they could afford with no-down-payment loans and adjustable rate mortgages with irresistibly low interest rates.

Plus, the way I see it, there’s no reason why anyone with an IQ larger than my shoe size (11) would invest a penny in mortgages signed by people who had no means or no intent of repaying them.

And of course, millions of Americans are also complicit for allowing themselves to be seduced into taking on more debt than they could ever repay.

But make no mistake: It took two Democratic presidents working with Democratic majorities in Congress to engineer this crisis. Without the disastrous “fair housing” legislation imposed on this country by Carter, Clinton, Frank, Dodd and other Democratic lawmakers, this crisis would never have happened.

And never forget; it was the Democratic Party that killed not one but two attempts by the Bush administration to stop this credit catastrophe before the first subprime lender bit the dust.

This is what happens when hysterical race-baiting and populist politics are allowed to subvert prudent business practices.

This is what happens when despicable politicians are allowed to buy votes from low-income people with laws that endanger your financial survival.

This is what happens when imbeciles — most of whom have never held a real job or have had to make payroll in a company of their own — are allowed to tamper with the economy.

And now, these same clowns
are about to make matters worse
… AGAIN!
Unbelievably, these same drooling morons — the very people who caused this mess in the first place — are now charged with saving our economic system from certain destruction.

Because they are the majority party in Congress, the very Democrats who engineered this crisis — most notably Senate Banking Committee Chairman Christopher Dodd (Fannie Mae’s fair-haired boy and #1 beneficiary of its political contributions) and House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank (who blocked every early attempt to avoid this crisis) — are running the show.

And if the current state of the presidential polls are any indication, our next vice president — Obama’s running mate, Joe Biden, a loyal Democrat while this disaster was being created in Congress — will be available to break any ties on future Senate votes.

And of course, Obama himself — the self-proclaimed “Candidate of Change” — who has never attempted to change or reform one, blessed thing in his entire life …

Who, much to the contrary, shamelessly exploited Chicago’s notoriously corrupt “pay-to-play” political system for all it’s worth and also built his entire political base on the very law that created this crisis …

… Will soon be lighting up his beloved Marlboros in the Oval Office.

So …

The next time you hear that your home equity has vanished into thin air and that your house is now worth less than you paid for it; maybe even less than you OWE on it …
Or find that your credit limit has just been slashed or you get rejected when you apply for a loan …
Or check your stock portfolio or retirement plan only to find that it’s a mere shadow of what it once was …
Or discover to your horror that our massive federal deficit has gutted your buying power and driven the price you pay at the supermarket or gas station sky high …
The next time you hear that a friend or family member has been laid-off, is teetering on the brink of bankruptcy and in danger of losing everything he or she has ever worked for …
The next time you want to kick the dog because your newly nationalized mortgage or insurance company is suddenly exhibiting all the competence of the U.S. Post Office and the sensitivity of an IRS collection agent …
And the next time Barney Frank or Charlie Rangel or Joe Biden or any other one of these unrepentant, hypocritical scoundrels tells you he’s raising your taxes because you’re not shouldering “your fair share” of the $1 trillion burden his blundering has saddled you with …
You know who to thank.

The moral of the story:
If you trust Washington to save you; you’re screwed.

If this crisis proves anything, it’s that these people don’t give a good goldarn about you. You’re not rich enough to bail out or poor enough to be given a hand-out.

So you, my friend, are on your own.

There are certain things you can do to protect yourself, though. And with this crisis unraveling at a breakneck pace, there’s no time to waste.

Here’s a checklist I hope will come in handy …

1. Rake in every dollar you can. First and foremost, it is absolutely critical that you do everything in your power to increase your income while you still can. Pull out all the stops in your business. If you work for someone else, work overtime or even multiple jobs if you have to. Sell stuff you don’t need or don’t use. Scrape together all the dollars you can.

2. Save every dollar you can. Guard every one of them like a junkyard dog. You’re going to need them. Go through your family budget with a fine-toothed comb and ruthlessly, unapologetically slash every unnecessary expense. The more you save now, the more you’ll have to see you through when the ca-ca hits the air conditioner.

You might also want to check with a financial advisor to explore ways to cut every payment you have to the bone. Because when the trillions of counterfeit paper dollars Washington’s now creating out of thin air begin working their way through the economy, you’ll probably be able to repay every debt you owe with dollars that are worth a fraction of what they’re worth today.

Also — whether you realize it or not, your single largest monthly expense is NOT your mortgage or your car or your health insurance or anything else. Your largest financial burden by far is the government — the federal, state and local taxes you pay dwarf every other expense you have.

So seeing a qualified tax advisor about ways to make absolutely sure you’re paying the absolute minimum required by law would be a stellar idea. Be sure not to forget your property taxes. If your home is declining in value, you may be able to appeal for a downward adjustment that could save you thousands.

3. Watch your bank accounts like a hawk. Whatever you do, do NOT assume that your bank is safe just because this most recent bail-out proposal is likely to become law.

Most banks have already suffered massive losses. Many are wounded; bleeding; struggling to survive. And many still have huge amounts of toxic loans in their portfolios that are steadily eroding their asset bases even further.

The bail-out is NOT going to replace the money they originally paid to buy those investments — and that means they’ll be booking even more losses as they dump those investments into the U.S. Treasury in the months ahead.

If you have more than $100,000 in a bank, make absolutely sure that no single account at any one bank contains even a single dollar more than the limit that’s insured by the FDIC. If you’re not clear on the rules, check out the FDIC website at WWW.FDIC.GOV

4. Program your business for success in this tough environment. If you are starting a business or are considering expanding your business’ product line, carefully consider this new economic environment when setting your strategy.

Think especially hard about recession-proof products and services — the things people can’t live without. Seriously consider products and services that cater to the very wealthy who are likely to be least affected as this crisis unfolds. Also consider things that might help beleaguered wage-earners, consumers, taxpayers, and other business owners get through this alive.

5. Expect stocks and mutual funds to plunge. If you own stocks — either directly, in a mutual fund or ETF or through a retirement or pension plan — you should seriously consider the risk you’re taking with that money.

Some analysts, including the ones who have been the most accurate in their warnings about this crisis from the get-go, are warning that, with the economy and stock market now as nervous as a hooker at a snake-handler convention, the next chunk of bad news that hits the wires could be the straw that breaks the market’s back.

And please — for all our sakes:
HELP US GET THE WORD OUT!
Send this article — in its entirety — to everyone you know. Post it or link to it on every blog, every forum you can think of. Send more links to everyone on your Contacts List and to reporters at the newspapers you read and the TV networks you watch.

Write letters to both of your Senators and Congressperson and urge everyone you know to do the same.

Demand that they repeal the Community Reinvestment Act that caused this crisis (yes, it’s still on the books and still being enforced!).

Tell them you know what they did to cause this crisis.

Demand that criminals in Congress who actually DID cause this crisis suffer at least as distressing a fate as the corporate CEOs they’re scapegoating.

The sooner Washington gets the message that we’re on to them and that we’re not going to take it any more, the sooner things can begin to change.

This is YOUR financial future we’re talking about here. If Washington’s power brokers have proven anything, it’s that they can NOT be trusted to do the right thing until millions of us rise as one and shout “Enough!”

McCain calls a Halt to Campaigning and the Debate this Friday

John McCain today called a halt to campaigning today, including this Friday's debate with "the messiah", to be in Washington to help craft legislation for the financial bailout of Wall Street companies

Obama said, he'll be there

Another bold move by McCain?
Will voters think he did the right thing? Will they think he is just stalling because he has been down in some recent polling?

The Obama camp will certainly spin it that way and more

Meanwhile the CPD announced;

OXFORD, Miss., Sept 24, 2008 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- "The Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) is moving forward with its plan for the first presidential debate at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Miss. this Friday, September 26. The plans for this forum have been underway for more than a year and a half. The CPD's mission is to provide a forum in which the American public has an opportunity to hear the leading candidates for the president of the United States debate the critical issues facing the nation. We believe the public will be well served by having all of the debates go forward as scheduled."
SOURCE The Commission on Presidential Debates

Will McCain be debating from Washington while Obama is in Mississippi?

My initial reaction?
Brilliant move by McCain once again. He famously said, "I would rather lose an election than a war" He can say it again, "I would rather lose an election than see America's economy destroyed"

Country First.

And his disagreement of the legislation that is being pushed by Bush further portrays him as an independent reformer willing to break with his party.

We live in very interesting times...stay tuned

Candidate Intro. Mike Herter 67 District

Crossposted on
RightMichigan

Mike Herter is running against RightMichigan's
Wall of Shame Member,Barb Byrum
a tax and spend liberal

While claiming to be "pro-business" Barb Bryum, aka Mrs. Brad Delaney, in her bid for re-election,"I am committed to doing everything I can to protect our citizens and local businesses." scored only 30% out of 100% in casting votes in favor of job providers according to the recent Michigan Chamber Legislative Scorecard. The Chamber based their scores on representatives who cast votes in favor of job providers.

Is it no wonder that with tax and spend liberals like Barb Bryum that unemployment in Michigan is almost 9% and that according to a survey of U.S. corporate executives Michigan scored 3rd in the least favorable business climate of all U.S. states with taxes, high costs, and "anti-business climate/regulation" accounting for the negative opinions

Mike Herter is a business man, who owns and operates Michigan Manufacturing Solutions, a consulting firm that works with manufacturing firms on plant efficiency issues. Making these manufacturer’s globally competitive with Michigan labor. Mike understands the importance of creating a favorable business climate and tax structure.

Mike is also a member of Right to Life of Michigan, a member of the NRA, and an avid hunter and fisherman.

Moreover, Mike is a member of Farm Bureau, USA Hockey and having played hockey for many years is now a Level IV hockey coach. Mike is a past member of the American Polled Hereford Association, having owned and raised Polled Herefords as the former operator of Herter Farms Inc. a beef cattle feedlot, located in Stockbridge

Mike has been working very hard on the campaign trail, including doing lots of door-to-door.
This is a race that can be won as 67th is largely rural and conservative District. Furthermore, the constituency has now experienced the reality vs. the rhetoric of Barb Bryum.

Condensing Chaz

"Chaz"Charlie Gibson's condensing, disrespectful interview disguised as "hard hitting" by the liberal media with Sarah Palin starts with Chaz "instructing" Sarah about the VP job. Chaz also can't seem to get it through his head that Sarah didn't bat an eyelash when asked by John McCain to be his running mate. I guess Chaz doesn't know any confident decisive women.

The rest of the interview is designed to either trip up or embarrass Palin with the obligatory liberal disdain for any indication that a political figure relies on their Christan faith for wisdom or guidance thrown in for good measure. Big surprise huh?

And once again Sarah Palin is subjected to intense dismissive scrutiny by the liberal press that PRESIDENTIAL candidate, Barack (Barry)Obama has yet to receive.

However, Sarah-cuda the Artic Fox is up to the task

But judge for yourself:

Palin Heat Threatens Planet
By Jan LaRue
American Thinker

Where in blazes is Global Al Gore when the planet really needs him? The CO2 emissions emanating from some major gasbags in response to Gov. Sarah Palin's nomination are off the charts. If the heat generated by the left keeps rising, even Barack Obama won't be able to slow "the rise of the oceans" and "heal our planet."

Take Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews. Please. The Larry & Moe of MSNBC got all miffed and vexed challenging anybody to find examples of "major news organizations who have questioned her motherhood or her right to become Vice President, given her motherhood." "Newsbusters" responded with a list of three: CNN, ABC and The Washington Post. And the list is growing.

NBC correspondent Amy Robach hung this catch-22 around Palin's neck: "The broader question if Sarah Palin becomes vice president, will she be shortchanging her kids or will she be shortchanging the country?" Maybe Robach got shortchanged by her journalism ethics professor.
How about that Gloria Steinem? Steinem says, "Palin: wrong woman, wrong message. Sarah Palin shares nothing but a chromosome with Hillary Clinton. She is Phyllis Schlafly, only younger." Don't you just love it when a jibe ends well?

Incredibly, Gloria, the "hope-a-holic," has hitched her wagon to "male leaders": American women, who suffer more because of having two full-time jobs than from any other single injustice, finally have support on a national stage from male leaders who know that women can't be equal outside the home until men are equal in it. Barack Obama and Joe Biden are campaigning on their belief that men should be, can be and want to be at home for their children.

Maybe Gloria bumped her head too many times while allowing female fire fighters to use her to demonstrate her theory (you can look it up) about getting fire victims out of harm's way. When critics said women aren't strong enough to carry people out of burning buildings, Gloria responded that if they can't pick'em up, they should drag 'em by the ankles. Imagine being dragged by the ankles down four or five flights of stairs, one thump at a time. If you weren't in a coma at the beginning of the ordeal, you would be by the end.

It's all the fault of "right-wing patriarchs," according to Gloria. So, are we to believe it's male cross-dressers who are making Palin a fashion icon?
In fact, the latest Rasmussen tracking poll shows "Palin is viewed favorably by 58% of American voters," which is slightly higher than John McCain or Barack Obama. "She earns positive reviews from 65 percent of men and 52 percent of women."

And what would we do without a pithy pearl from Senate majority leader, Harry "I know how to screw things up" Reid, the guy who said "I can't stand John McCain?" He thinks Palin is "shrill." Harry's never been sharp at wooing the feminist vote. Keep in mind, Harry used botox. Only a guy who's taken too many shots to the head would insult a former fighter pilot and a crack shot in the same week.

Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) said Sarah Palin's acceptance speech for the Republican vice presidential nomination was "laced with ridicule," and called the Alaska governor an extremist. "She can throw a very strong punch, a very sarcastic punch."

And who's a better judge of sarcastic punches? This is the Boxer who managed to deck herself awhile back when she threw a left jab at Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice for her reproductive failure.

Oprah Winfrey's staff is said to be hotly divided about having Palin appear on Oprah's TV show. Oprah responded to the Drudge Report's story that she's refusing to interview Palin:
At the beginning of the presidential campaign, when I decided that I was going to take my first public stance in support of a candidate, I made the decision not to use my show as a platform for any of the candidates. ... I agree that Sarah Palin would be a fantastic interview, and I would love to have her on after the campaign is over.

Those of us in flyover country can only grasp this kind of spin with a copy of Media for Dummies. In its "US Liberal Politics" section, About.com's entry on Winfrey reports that "When Barack and wife Michelle Obama appeared on the Oprah show in October 2006, Oprah urged him to run for the White House." Sounds like a political "platform," unless the Obamas were really on Oprah's show to promote their new book idea, Living Large in Chicago with Crazies, Crooks, and Terrorists We Didn't Really Know.

Whoopi Goldberg writes that "Sarah Palin Is a Very Dangerous Woman." While complaining about "meanness and snideness and some inaccuracies" in Palin's GOP convention speech, Goldberg inaccurately claims that Palin "was part of a campaign to secede Alaska from the United States of America."

David Letterman fumed about Palin to his guest, Dr. Phil McGraw: "Do you want your President to have had the presence of mind to have chatted to her teenaged kids for five minutes about birth control? ... They don't sell Trojans in Alaska?" "Dr. Phil" reminded him that Barack's mother was 18 when she had him.

In their meltdown over Palin, the libs have issued their latest "consensus" decree: There's never been a contraceptive failure in the history of mankind. How's that for "presence of mind"?

Gov. Palin may get bummed out from all the personal attacks against her that have nothing to do with her governing abilities. If so, Katie Couric, a single mom, who runs the world of "CBS Evening News," revealed on "The View" recently how she handles "negative press":
Couric then explained how she has dealt with the negative press surrounding her possible departure and her broadcast's sluggish ratings -- specifically how she handles that with her daughters (Carrie, 12, and Ellie, 17):

Carrie once said, when I was kind of bummed out about something somebody had written that was really nasty and had nothing to do with my abilities or my journalistic abilities...she said, "Mom, remember what Samantha said in Sex and the City: If I listened to what every bitch in New York City said about me, I'd never leave the house."

What Samantha, queen of drive-by sex, and her girlfriends didn't gab about are the nasty results of sex in the city where infection with the Herpes virus "is above the national rate," and rates "of Chlamydia, gonorrhea, and infectious syphilis were also higher than the national rate." Life News reports that "the abortion rate in the nation's largest city is three times higher than the national average despite the easy access to birth control and contraception."

It's a perverted logic that lays the blame for the consequences of promiscuous sex on those like Palin who support abstinence education.
And wouldn't it be great if Couric reminded her media colleagues that "really nasty" shouldn't define their coverage of Sarah Palin?

Detroit Free Press Editor Stacks the Deck with Liberals

Crossposted on MichiganRight

Another example of liberal media bias has been exposed. Fox News reports that Detroit Free Press editor Randy Essex stacked the deck with "left-wing and anti-war activists in a focus group of so-called independent voters that the newspaper interviewed during the political conventions,"

Included were "two members of the anti-war group CodePink..including Joellen Gilchrist, who runs a chapter of CodePink,— as well as two other liberal activists... Ilene Beninson, who once joined anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan in a hunger strike." The so-called independents " included George Lentz and Jan Wheelock. Lentz has publicly opposed the war in Iraq and run a petition drive to help defeat Michigan anti-gay marriage legislation. Wheelock is a member and donor to the East Michigan Environmental Action Council, along with Gilchrist."

This so called "unbiased" focus group praised Barack Obama after his Democratic presidential nomination acceptance speech. And one week later blasted Sarah Palin's acceptance speech.

Furthermore, Detroit Free Press editor Randy Essex said he" didn’t see the harm in having a 'radical leftist or two' in the group."

I wonder if Rancdy Essex saw harm in including a pro-life activist or a NRA member? Obviously as the make-up of this so-called independent voters was over 60% Democrats and radical liberal activists.

Of course how many of us are truly surprised?

JUST IN...

E-Mail him and ask if "Can I be in your next "independent voters " group?"
I just did. Oh and for good measure I included the link to my blog post http://apackof2-theworldaccordingtome.blogspot.com/2008/09/unbiased-rag-stacks-deck-with-liberals.ht ml

Sarah gets a bounce and then some

Crossposted on RightMichigan

I just heard a VERY interesting tidbit of news on Fox News. The latest Gallup Poll has McCain 50% to "the messiah" 46%.

Big (Sarah) convention bounce however the BIG news buried inside this info is that an element that Barry's campaign
always pointed out, was that the poling on who Americans thought was best able to handle the economy always favored Barry 19%.
No more, THAT number has dramatically dropped to 3%!

Ha! Wait till Americans can get more of Sarah!
She will interviewed by Charlie Gibson, Fox continues to play Greta's show about Sarah, CNN is playing her debate with the boys when she was running for governor (be afraid Biden, be very afraid) she is due on Meet the Press and of course she's on the campaign trail continuing to draw thousands!!!!!!

The left is so desperate because they just don't know to counter the juggernaut of Sarah, they have operatives in Alaska trying to dig up any dirt. The latest act of desperation is chasing down a "rumor" that Sarah cheated when she won the beauty contest. Yeah because she is so unattractive and untalented LOLOL!

Oh btw there is a blogger on Fox right now and they are acknowledging how us bloggers have affected news, and how its reported because bloggers are now scooping the media on stories! :-) Speaking of bloggers...separating fact from fiction on Sarah Palin HERE

After Action Report: McCain/Palin Sterling Heights MI Rally

Straight Talk Express Rolls into Macomb County (w/Pictures)
By RightMacomb, Section News
Posted on Sat Sep 06, 2008 at 09:05:50 AM EST

The rally was huge and received great coverage in the local press. But, with their pictures you cannot appreciate the size of this crowd...read the rest of the story and see more pictures, HERE on RightMichigan

I also received this report from two friends of mine who attended the rally;

We attended the rally yesterday at Freedom Hill. It was unbelievable and so encouraging. We sat on stage behind Senator McCain and Governor Palin and we were not allowed to take pictures from that angle. It did allow us to view the audience.

It was an overflowing house.....all seats were filled, the grassy area was full right back to the fence, people were sitting in the aisles. We were able to view all of the wonderful signs----Democrats 4 McCain, Special Needs Moms for McCain/Palin, Hockey Moms for McCain/Palin, Drill Baby Drill, Vets for McCain, Viva McCain, Sisters for McCain & God Bless America and many, many more.

There were many Veterans in the group, recognized and greeted enthusiastically by the crowds. Besides the nuns (Sisters for McCain & God Bless America sings) who stood out among the huge numbers, I noticed a huge number of young and younger people. My guess is that the 49 and under age group made up 55% of the crowd. This is encouraging.

Young men and women, young Moms & Dads, young professionals, all nationalities. It was an awesome sight. Sorry we didn't get any pics of our candidates but it was a great experience to see the crowds, read their signs and watch their faces as our candidates entered, spoke, mingled and departed. Absolutely outstanding.

We got their very late, however it was packed! We had to walk quite a distance from our car. The crowd was really pumped up and it was awesome!

Go McCain/Palin!

"I was no longer my own man, I was my country's"

I just finished listening to John McCain's acceptance speech. Of course I wondered if he could possibly complete with the awesome speech of his running mate Sarah Palin.

Although his delivery wasn't as charismatic as his running mate, John McCain delivered a thoughtful speech of fighting for America and Americans with an emphasis on selfless service for country.

The story of his imprisonment and abuse in Viet Nam and the maturity and deep love of country that came of that makes Obama in comparison a pampered, petulant man-child.

For those of those who are not familiar with John McCain, this speech presented him as an experienced, mature, tested man committed to shaking up the status quo of Washington (including chiding his own party as an appeal to independents) with a return to integrity, cutting pork barrel, cutting taxes with an Reaganesque unabashed pride in America.

But equally important he was.... likable.... to me and judging by the reception to his speech other conservatives as well.

Together with Sarah Palin's speech, tonight I believe John McCain has brokered a peace within the party and brought all Republicans together for a common cause, defeating Barack Obama.

Onward!

She Is Woman, Hear Her Roar

Tuesday, September 02, 2008
INVESTOR BUSINESS DAILY

Election '08: The attacks on John McCain's bold veep pick have begun. But if the critics think Sarah Palin is an easy target, they'd better think again. She can fire back. Working moms of the world, unite.
"There's a gigantic difference between John McCain and Barack Obama and between me and I suspect my vice-presidential opponent," Joe Biden said while campaigning in Toledo Sunday. "She's good-looking." It's a dismissive put-down we would expect from Biden, one a Republican couldn't get away with.

Obama spokesman Bill Burton was more direct, saying that McCain had irresponsibly put "the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency." This said while he's trying to elect a former Illinois state senator who voted "present" 135 times and who spent just 143 business days in the Senate before deciding he was ready to lead the free world.

This is a reminder of Obama's similarly dismissive remark about bitter, small town Pennsylvanians who cling to their guns and their Bibles. Well, Sarah Palin has a Bible she reads regularly and is a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association who can fire a gun.

Her more than 12 years of executive experience actually making decisions that affect the lives of real people certainly stack up against the meager record of Geraldine Ferraro who in 1984 "made history" by bringing her six years in Congress nearly a heartbeat away from the presidency.

Sarah Palin has more executive experience actually running a government than Barack Obama and Joe Biden combined. Those who dismiss her as an adviser to McCain forget she is a sitting governor of an energy-rich state in a world in which energy is both an economic and national security issue.

She knows her stuff on energy. Barack Obama makes incredibly dumb statements about inflating our tires saving an equivalent amount of oil as is to be found in the Outer Continental Shelf. Governor Palin builds a $40 billion pipeline to bring Alaskan natural gas to the lower 48 states. Her steelworker husband works in the North Slope oil fields and she is the only candidate on either ticket who has actually been to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

Maureen Dowd of the New York Times calls her "Vice In Go-Go Boots" and calls Governor Palin "a cute, cool unknown from Alaska who has never even been on 'Meet the Press.' " We wonder if she makes MSNBC's Chris Matthews' legs tingle like he said Barack Obama does. Those boots were made for campaigning and they walked all over the corrupt good-ole-boy network in Alaska.

Ruth Marcus of the Washington Post says: "McCain runs the risk that Palin will turn out to be Dan Quayle with an up-do — except with less experience." She can not only spell "potato" but this union member can also fire an AK-15. Democrats run the risk of dismissing this working mother of five as a "Dan Quayle" with an up-do at their peril. Remember those 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling.

The Associated Press in a photo caption described her as "the so-called 'hockey mom' credited with reforms of her tiny, out-of-the-way state." This "tiny" state is 10 times the size of Obama's Illinois and over 250 times the size of Biden's Delaware. This "out-of-the-way" state produces 20% of our domestic energy, and could produce much more.

She actually runs her "tiny" state, unlike Delaware's Joe Biden, who rides the taxpayer-subsidized Amtrak to his job bloviating on the major issues of the day. Biden is said to have infinitely more foreign policy experience. Perhaps he can tell Obama that Iran is not a "tiny" country that poses no threat.

Governor Palin has been to Iraq. She is commander of the Alaska National Guard, units of which are serving in Iraq. Her son is going there to serve in an infantry brigade on Sept. 11.

For working moms across America, that may be the only experience she needs.

The Most Popular Governor

More on Sarah Palin from an article written for the THE WEEKLY STANDARD a year ago

The Most Popular Governor
Alaska's Sarah Palin is the GOP's newest star.
by Fred Barnes
07/16/2007, Volume 012, Issue 41

Juneau
The wipeout in the 2006 election left Republicans in such a state of dejection that they've overlooked the one shining victory in which a Republican star was born. The triumph came in Alaska where Sarah Palin, a politician of eye-popping integrity, was elected governor. She is now the most popular governor in America, with an approval rating in the 90s, and probably the most popular public official in any state.

Her rise is a great (and rare) story of how adherence to principle--especially to transparency and accountability in government--can produce political success. And by the way, Palin is a conservative who only last month vetoed 13 percent of the state's proposed budget for capital projects. The cuts, the Anchorage Daily News said, "may be the biggest single-year line-item veto total in state history."

As recently as last year, Palin (pronounced pale-in) was a political outcast. She resigned in January 2004 as head of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission after complaining to the office of Governor Frank Murkowski and to state Attorney General Gregg Renkes about ethical violations by another commissioner, Randy Ruedrich, who was also Republican state chairman.

State law barred Palin from speaking out publicly about ethical violations and corruption. But she was vindicated later in 2004 when Ruedrich, who'd been reconfirmed as state chairman, agreed to pay a $12,000 fine for breaking state ethics laws. She became a hero in the eyes of the public and the press, and the bane of Republican leaders.

In 2005, she continued to take on the Republican establishment by joining Eric Croft, a Democrat, in lodging an ethics complaint against Renkes, who was not only attorney general but also a long-time adviser and campaign manager for Murkowski. The governor reprimanded Renkes and said the case was closed. It wasn't. Renkes resigned a few weeks later, and Palin was again hailed as a hero.

Palin, 43, the mother of four, passed up a chance to challenge Republican senator Lisa Murkowski, the then-governor's daughter, in 2004. She endorsed another candidate in the primary, but Murkowski won and was reelected. Palin said then that her 14-year-old son talked her out of running, though it's doubtful that was the sole reason.

In 2006, she didn't hesitate. She ran against Gov. Murkowski, who was seeking a second term despite sagging poll ratings, in the Republican primary. In a three-way race, Palin captured 51 percent and won in a landslide. She defeated former Democratic governor Tony Knowles in the general election, 49 percent to 41 percent. She was one of the few Republicans anywhere in the country to perform above expectations in 2006, an overwhelmingly Democratic year. Palin is unabashedly pro life.

With her emphasis on ethics and openness in government, "it turned out Palin caught the temper of the times perfectly," wrote Tom Kizzia of the Anchorage Daily News. She was also lucky. News broke of an FBI investigation of corruption by legislators between the primary and general elections. So far, three legislators have been indicted.

In the roughly three years since she quit as the state's chief regulator of the oil industry, Palin has crushed the Republican hierarchy (virtually all male) and nearly every other foe or critic. Political analysts in Alaska refer to the "body count" of Palin's rivals. "The landscape is littered with the bodies of those who crossed Sarah," says pollster Dave Dittman, who worked for her gubernatorial campaign. It includes Ruedrich, Renkes, Murkowski, gubernatorial contenders John Binkley and Andrew Halcro, the three big oil companies in Alaska, and a section of the Daily News called "Voice of the Times," which was highly critical of Palin and is now defunct.

One of her first acts as governor was to fire the Alaska Board of Agriculture. Her ultimate target was the state Creamery Board, which has been marketing the products of Alaska dairy farmers for 71 years and wanted to close down after receiving $600,000 from the state. "You don't just close your doors and walk away," Palin told me. She discovered she lacked the power to fire the Creamery Board. Only the board of agriculture had that authority. So Palin replaced the agriculture board, which appointed a new creamery board, which has rescinded the plan to shut down.

In preserving support for dairy farmers, Palin exhibited a kind of Alaskan chauvinism. She came to the state as an infant, making her practically a native. And she is eager to keep Alaska free from domination by oil companies or from reliance on cruise lines whose ships bring thousands of tourists to the state.

"She's as Alaskan as you can get," says Dan Fagan, an Anchorage radio talk show host. "She's a hockey mom, she lives on a lake, she ice fishes, she snowmobiles, she hunts, she's an NRA member, she has a float plane, and her husband works for BP on the North Slope," Fagan says. Todd Palin, her high school sweetheart, is a three-time winner of the 2,000-mile Iron Dog snowmobile race from Wasilla to Nome to Fairbanks. It's the world's longest snowmobile race.

Gov. Palin grew up in Wasilla, where as star of her high school basketball team she got the nickname "Sarah Barracuda" for her fierce competitiveness. She led her underdog team to the state basketball championship. Palin also won the Miss Wasilla beauty contest, in which she was named Miss Congeniality, and went on to compete in the Miss Alaska pageant.

At 32, she was elected mayor of Wasilla, a burgeoning bedroom community outside Anchorage. Though Alaskans tend to be ferociously anti-tax, she persuaded Wasilla voters to increase the local sales tax to pay for an indoor arena and convention center. The tax referendum won by 20 votes.

In 2002, Palin entered statewide politics, running for lieutenant governor. She finished a strong second in the Republican primary. That fall, she dutifully campaigned for Murkowski, who'd given up his Senate seat to run for governor. Afterwards, she turned down several job offers from Murkowski, finally accepting the oil and gas post. When she quit 11 months later, "that was her defining moment" in politics, says Fagan.

Her campaign for governor was bumpy. She missed enough campaign appearances to be tagged "No Show Sarah" by her opponents. She was criticized for being vague on issues. But she sold voters on the one product that mattered: herself.

Her Christian faith--Palin grew up attending nondenominational Bible churches--was a minor issue in the race. She told me her faith affects her politics this way: "I believe everything happens for a purpose. In my own personal life, if I dedicated back to my Creator what I'm trying to create for the good . . . everything will turn out fine." That same concept applies to her political career, she suggested.

The biggest issue in the campaign was the proposed natural gas pipeline from the North Slope that's crucial to the state's economy. Murkowski had made a deal with the three big oil companies--Exxon, BP, ConocoPhillips--which own the gas reserves to build the pipeline. But the legislature turned it down and Palin promised to create competition for the pipeline contract.

She made three other promises: to end corruption in state government, cut spending, and provide accountability. She's now redeeming those promises.
Palin describes herself as "pro-business and pro-development." She doesn't want the oil companies to sit on their energy reserves or environmental groups to block development of the state's resources. "I get frustrated with folks from outside Alaska who come up and say you shouldn't develop your resources," she says. Alaska needs to be self-sufficient, she says, instead of relying heavily on "federal dollars," as the state does today.

Her first major achievement as governor was lopsided passage by the legislature of the Alaska Gasline Inducement Act, which is designed to attract pipeline proposals this summer. The state is offering $500 million in incentives, but the developer must meet strict requirements. The oil companies have said they won't join the competition.

Palin's tough spending cuts drew criticism from Republican legislators whose pet projects were vetoed. But her popularity doesn't appear threatened. "It's not just that she's pretty and young," says Dittman. "She's really smart. And there's no guile. She says her favorite meal is moose stew or mooseburgers. It wouldn't shock people if that were true."

McCain's Pick?

In a few hours we will know who John MCain will pick for VP
My favorite from McCain's short list has been Alaska's (the ANWAR state) Govenor Sarah Palin.

First off, she is a woman (for disgruntled Hillary's supporters), she is ethical, young, attractive mother of five, extremely popular in her home state and relatively unknown, which is a counterpoint plus to Barry's pick of old establishment Biden

However the majority of those who voted in my poll picked Romney.

I'll post as soon as I know...

Barry Picks a Running Mate

So we finally have the big announcement, "the messiah" aka Barry Soreto aka Barack Hussein Obama has picked his main disciple, Senator Joe Biden, long time Congress critter from Delaware and semi-professional presidential candidate.

Just to jog the memory some tidbits from Biden's past presidential campaigns;

In 1987, Joe Biden ran as a Democratic presidential candidate...Then in September 1987, the campaign ran into serious trouble when he was accused of plagiarizing a speech by Neil Kinnock, then-leader of the British Labour Party.[26] Though Biden had correctly credited the original author in all speeches but one, the one where he failed to make mention of the originator was caught on video; the New York Times reported "Senator Biden began his remarks by saying the ideas had come to him spontaneously on the way to the debate."[26][27]

Within days, it was also discovered that as a first-year law student at Syracuse Law School, Biden had plagiarized a law review article in a class paper he wrote. Though the dean of the law school in 1988 as well as Biden's former professor played down the incident of plagiarism, they did find that Biden drew "chunks of heavy legal prose directly from" the article in question. Biden said the act was inadvertent due to his not knowing the proper rules of citation, and Biden was permitted to retake the course after receiving a grade of F, which was subsequently dropped from his record.[28] Biden also released his undergraduate grades, which started off poorly andaccording to E. J. Dionne, remained unexceptional.[28]

Further, when questioned by a New Hampshire resident about his law school, Biden misstated being in the "top half" of his class, (when he actually graduated 76th in a class of 85) that he had attended on a full scholarship, and had received three degrees when in fact he received two majors, History and Political Science, and a half scholarship from Syracuse and a grant from the Higher Education Scholarship Fund of the state of Delaware (he didn't pay any tuition).

[29] In response to the questions and criticism, he said: "However trivial, I certainly believe these are legitimate questions of press inquiry. And I will be as responsive to these and other inquiries as I possibly can."[29]

Faced with these revelations, Biden withdrew from the nomination race on September 23, 1987,

Biden declared his candidacy for president on January 31, 2007, although he had discussed running for months prior...

Washington Post columnist Richard Cohen as saying that Biden's candidacy might be endangered by his "manic-obsessive running of the mouth."[35]

This foreshadowed Biden's January 31 remark on fellow Democratic candidate and Senator Barack Obama, frequently transcribed as, "I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy, I mean, that's a storybook, man."[36]

However, several linguists and political analysts stated that the correct transcription includes a comma after the word "African-American", which "would significantly change the meaning (and the degree of offensiveness) of Biden's comment".[37]

Still, his comments took second place on Time magazine's list of Top 10 Campaign Gaffes for 2007.[38]
Wikipedia

In May 2004 on “Meet the Press, Joe Biden said “I think John McCain would be a great candidate for vice president,”

Soooo nice quote for a McCain campaign ad don't ya think?

Hmm I guess Obama thought it would be a great idea to have a running mate that was a McCain's peer in age and race?

Conventional wisdom is Biden has the foreign policy experience that Obama lacks.

But Joe Biden is a target rich elitist that McCain can capitalize on. On the other hand, Biden being a long time Congress critter knows which closets McCain's skeletons are in and will use the information. Look for the 2008 campaign to get real ugly from here to November

Bottom line, Obama screwed up,big time, he should have picked Hillary. He should have at least feted her

McCain scores on this one, and he didn't even need to shoot

After Action Report: My Army of One Obama Protest

I arrived downtown about 8:45 am thinking I was meeting up with some other Ingham County Republicans. As it turned out for most of my Obama counter protest, I was an Army of One. However, an Army of One conservative is worth a 1000 liberals!

I parked about a block from the Lansing Center so I could walk the length of the Lansing Center holding my double-sided sign on my way to the meet up spot. The side showing to those lined up to see the "messiah" said, "NO OBAMA
Typical White Person, Will Drive an SUV, Eating as Much as I Want, Keeping My Home at 72 Degrees, Bitterly clinging to Guns and Religion The flip side said, NO OBAMA God Bless America, NOT God D*** America!
For the most part, I was greeted with disgust, puzzled or shocked looks from the faithful who couldn't believe I had the nerve to exercise my Constitutional rights!

What immediately impressed me was the lack of the "messiah's" faithful as you can see by the picture of myself in front of the Lansing Center.
Despite what you will probably hear, there were maybe a thousand attendees. Not a good showing for the "Anointed One"

On a strange side note, as I approached the Lansing Center, I saw a police cruiser on fire, completely engulfed in flames. Hmmm over excited Osama followers? The aura of the messiah himself, unable to be contained by a mere edifice?

I took up my corner sentry by the Osama trinkets stand. And was joined by one other patriot. I noticed that the were NOT doing much business. One person who seemed more interested in just talking than in the messiah's appearance approached me. In addition, I got a very caustic passing comment from a young girl wearing a peace sign T-shirt, "You're the only one! I reminded her that it's what happens in November that counts

After realizing there was not going to be a "meet up" I decided to walk back and position myself directly in front of the entrance to the Lansing Center were I was approached and interviewed by several media outlets.

A young mother and her two children carrying McCain signs joined me. Republicans in training. Her son was approached by a media person and he was asked why he came. Out of the mouths of babes came a great quote
"To be honest I don't know a lot about McCain but I know enough about Obama!"

A middle-aged black woman wearing some "Obamaware" then approached me. I had to explain to her that my sign was a take on actually Obama quotes. I got a blank look back. Which explained the puzzled looks I received earlier, that the majority of the "messiah" followers do not know much about the person they are willing to entrust the leadership of the United State to.

My continued conversation only confirmed my opinion. She said, "Obama was for change and we need change." I asked her "what change?" She was fuzzy. So I asked her how Osama was going to implement this nebulous change. Again fuzzy so she said, "Well what is McCain going to change?" I replied I asked you first, YOU tell me what Obama will change."
Blank. I replied, "You can't say because you do not know, yet you are going to vote for someone for president and you don't even know where he stands on the issues?
She then uttered the words that send a chill down my spine, "I am willing to take a chance!" Aghast, I answered; Well, I am NOT willing to take a chance with the leadership of America."

This is who will must deal with, the unconcerned, uninformed persons willing to take a chance with our country! God help us!

It has been said before but...Now is the time for all good Conservatives to come to the aid of their country!
First pray that the Lord have mercy on America and get busy!

Candidate Introduction: Chris Greenshields Candidate for Ingham County Sheriff

Recently I had the pleasure of meeting Chris Greenshields, candidate for Ingham County Sheriff. Chris it running against Gene Wigglesworth, the long time incumbent Democrat.

This will be a tough race but I believe that with a candidate like Chris we have an excellent chance of unseating Gene Wigglesworth. Chris is extremely organized, a tireless campaigner, and has some great endorsements coming down the pipe (more on those in a soon to come update). However, more than that Chris is motivated by a deep desire to see long needed changes and to return the Ingham county sheriff’s dept into one that truly does "protect and serve" the community.

A short time ago, I had an opportunity to interview Chris

Chris what has motivated you to run?

I am a conservative that believes very strongly in limited government, upholding the rights of an individual’s civil liberties and property rights given to us by our Constitution. I grew up the son of an Ingham County Deputy. My father's job was true community policing as I watched him serve and protect the public. This ideology no longer exists in the Ingham County Sheriff’s Department.

It has become a machine bent on generating revenue through leasing jail space, seizing property as directed by family court and traffic enforcement. A corporate culture of greed and irresponsible spending runs through the current system.

I was a Deputy and a Rescue Diver under the current Sheriff and left because I objected to Gene Wigglesworth's policies.

Chris, what is your vision for the Ingham Co Sheriff’s dept?

I intend to restructure the Department to create an environment that rewards frugality, promotes individuals who help citizens, and restore the public’s respect for law enforcement. The Ingham County family of law enforcement has a broken home; I am determined to fix it.

Chris how can volunteers contact you to get involved in your campaign?

The Unvarnished State of the State

The Unvarnished State of the State

Since my job as fiscal policy director of a think tank requires me to watch the State of the State address every year, I have often wondered what I might say if I were governor. After a decade of analyzing state budgets and Michigan’s economy, I think my remarks would go something like this:
It is a pleasure to be here to deliver my very first State of the State address to this full chamber. My remarks will be different from my predecessors’ in two ways. First, I did not craft these remarks around pithy quotes that could be easily extracted by the media. Too many speeches by too many politicians are designed to solicit good press coverage rather than convey substantive ideas.

Second (and related), my speech is void of applause lines. It has, in recent years, become customary to place invited guests of heroic stature in our gallery and then dramatically recount the ways they have saved kids from ignorance, created jobs or served honorably in a theater of war. This omission will prevent legislators from leaping to their feet in raucous applause with the predictability of Pavlov’s dogs at the sound of a bell.
In exchange for meaningless but clever turns of a phrase, I will offer the troubling but blunt truth:

Michigan is dying.

The Great Lake State most of us remember from our youth is being replaced by a poorer, less competitive one. Consider just a few economic measures.

First, Michigan’s rank among the 50 states in per capita state Gross Domestic Product has tumbled from a high of 16th in 1999 to 39th in 2006.

State GDP is simply the value of all goods and services produced within the geographical borders of a state. This ranking is important to us because Michigan has typically done better during national booms and worse during recessions. But starting in 2002 something changed.

With a growing national economy we should have been climbing in the GDP rankings, yet we continue to fall. This is not a simple, cyclical event.

Second, Michigan’s per capita personal income is 7.8 percent below the national average, a rate worse than during the Great Depression.

Let me drive this point home. If present trends continue, the people of Alabama will on average have higher incomes than the people of Michigan in just three years.

Lastly, Michigan has the highest unemployment rate of any state in the nation at 7.6 percent. If the Great Lake State has another year of net job losses as is expected, it will represent the largest string of year-over-year job losses since the Great Depression.

Now, I ask you: Does anyone think any of these numbers will improve as a result of last year’s $1.4 billion tax hike?

The economic law of demand is clear. If you raise the price of anything — wheat, jobs or work, for instance — you get less of it. When the state hikes the cost of laboring and living in Michigan they will get less of it. We must reverse these trends and do so with dramatic reforms.

For starters, Michigan must become the 23rd right-to-work state, which is perhaps the greatest economic development tool in the state’s reach.

Between 2001 and 2006, states with voluntary unionism enjoyed state GDP growth of 18.1 percent. Michigan grew by only 3.4 percent during the same period. From July 2005 to July 2006, nine of the top 10 states in terms of population growth were right-to-work states. The numbers suggest that this is no coincidence.

We must repeal the hated Michigan Business Tax — which repealed the hated Single Business Tax — and we must offset revenue losses by reducing the size and scope of state government. The Mackinac Center has compiled a list of spending reductions that would save the state $1.3 billion without cutting any core government functions.

The good news is that Michigan is a great state with abundant natural resources, such as water and human talent. Moreover, opportunity can spring from crisis. Someone once said that politicians will do the right thing, but only after they have exhausted every other option. Michigan may have reached that point. Let us move forward.

As I read this I had two emotions, one of grief, that Michigan has absolutely the worst choice of a govenor at such a critical time in her history. And the other is anger, at how this governor is destroying her. However its a anger with resolve.
By all means available to me I will fight for my Michigan.
I hope you will join me....
